Things you should know about working as an IT Lead Business Analyst:

The Lead Business Analyst is a seasoned IT systems business analyst with a wide range of technical knowledge and business skills, and who possesses relevant experience in the Supply Chain/Transportation/Warehouse/Logistics areas.  This individual will participate in analyzing and documenting business requirements, assist in documenting User Stories and Functional Specifications, interpret business need to technical team, assist in Systems and Business Acceptance Testing, participate in System Implementation, and participate in problem resolution for existing systems. Must have experience in the full software development life cycle and a deep understanding of software technologies and how they are used in application development.  This position will be expected to provide a deeper analysis of requirements and business needs, working with business partners, developers and quality analysts to generate improvements in applications and processes.  The Lead Business Analyst will work on an Agile team that practices the SCRUM methodology to complete work.  The Lead Business Analyst will be expected to oversee the activities of other analysts and technical teams across multiple concurrent projects and enhancements, delivering change with minimal impact to the business.   This position is also expected to work closely with project teams, vendors and third-party technical contacts regarding business requirements or assisting in resolving business process issues.  This is a full-time position and may require participation in 24 hour on-call production support.

As a Lead Business Analyst, this individual is expected to coach or mentor other team members in Business Analysis standards and best practices. On some of the minor enhancement projects, the lead is also expected to play a Project Manager role in terms of managing capacity and skill needs for the project.

  • Quality Mgmt.:  Enforces standards for implementing new systems and supporting existing systems
  • Risk Mgmt.:  Maximizes positive results and minimizes negative results in existing systems and across assigned projects
  • Communication Mgmt.:  Manages intra- and inter-team Business information flow for assigned projects
  • Scope/Schedule Mgmt.:  Ensures delivery of agreed scope on agreed schedules
  • Resource Mgmt.: Responsibility for assisting the team manager in Hiring, Developing and Retaining Employees within area of responsibility
  • Estimates project effort 
  • Gather Business Requirements:  Responsible for working with business partners to create documentation that defines requirements for specific business processes.
  • Functional Design/User Story Development: working with business partners to create documentation that defines requirements for specific business processes.
  • Technical/Solution Design: interpret previously documented functional specification/user story and provide written technical specifications, acceptance criteria, or test plans that will be used as code level documents.
  • Ensures accuracy of Functional design and correctness of solution outcomes
  • Participates in developing Business Test Scripts
  • Ensures quality deliverables through accurately capturing business requirements then managing scope, schedule, communications, risk and stakeholder expectations.    
  • Participates in developing System Test Scripts
  • Support development of Business documentation.
  • Mentors other team members
  • Manage warranty period and support roll-out
  • Follow ITIL Processes
  • Adhere to System Security standards
  • Adhere to Disaster Recovery standards
  • Assist in Application Upgrades, OS Upgrades, and Hardware upgrades

 Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of experience with development of User Stories and/or Functional specification (working with business partners to create documentation that defines and documents requirements for a specific business process)
  • 4-year degree with a concentration in Computer Science or Liberal Arts, Business or similar duration of relevant experience
  • 5 years’ experience with Application implementation
  • Broad experience of integrating home grown and Commercial Off the Shelf systems
  • Experience working with vendors and third parties in a technical manner
  • Production Support
  • Implementation Support
  • Software Development Life Cycle experience
  • High awareness of latest technology trends and best practices

 Preferred Qualifications

  • 7 years’ experience with Business Application Design, Application Architecture
  • Relevant experience in Supply Chain/Transportation/Warehouse/Logistics areas
