Job Overview

The Vice President, Total Rewards is an enterprise-wide role.  Leading a team, the VP Total Rewards serves as the strategic and operational HR leader responsible for ensuring that the compensation, health and welfare and retirement benefits processes, plans, programs and tools are not only competitive, sustainable and scalable, but also support business strategy, enhance organizational capability, and foster employee engagement for Coca-Cola Consolidated, Red Classic Transport and Data Ventures (collectively referred to as Coca-Cola Consolidated or the Company).



Duties & Responsibilities

  • Develops the overall total rewards philosophy aligned with Coca-Cola Consolidated’ s purpose, values, goals, and business objectives. 
  • Influences the design and investment in Coca-Cola Consolidated’ s total rewards portfolio to enhance our teammate value proposition. Enabling employees to understand and appreciate the value of their rewards package and positions.
  • Provide overall strategic direction, design, implementation, and communication for all aspects of enterprise-wide total rewards policy and plans including compensation, health care; retirement and savings; health and wellness as well as other related total rewards plans. Working closely with key stakeholders to ensure the company’s plans, programs and initiatives are competitive, affordable and deliverable as well as consistent with the company’s employee value proposition.
  • Partner with external consultants and internal key stakeholders on the design and development of materials for the Human Resources Compensation Committee and/or Board of Directors.
  • Oversee the design, evaluation and implementation of progressive, cost effective, and competitive group health and welfare as well as retirement 401(K) and pension plans.
  • Lead regular comprehensive reviews of current non-union and union benefit offerings to ensure programs are competitive and cost effective in all locations; based on market data and benchmarked against competitor trends; and compliant with regulatory requirements.
  • Oversee and assist in the preparation and communication of informational material to employees and former employees about benefit programs, procedures, changes, and government-mandated disclosures.
  • Negotiate and contract with benefit plan providers, vendors, auditors, and consultants for services, premiums, and plan administration. Identify and implement benefits to increase the quality of life for employees, by working with brokers and researching benefit issues.
  • Oversee the design, development, implementation, and administration of enterprise-wide broad band compensation practices including market pricing, base pay components, annual merit process, benchmarking, and short and long-term incentive plans to ensure these programs are internally equitable and externally competitive which are cost effective and consistent with market trends, best practices and corporate objectives.
  • Ensure broad based compensation programs are reviewed annually for program design, alignment with the Coca-Cola Consolidated culture, and continued support of the business strategy.
  • Partner with business and HR leaders to develop, prepare and maintain detailed job descriptions and classification systems to define job levels.
  • Review market benchmark surveys, analyze competitive market data and develop recommendations for updates to job architecture, salary structures and bonus targets as appropriate; propose salary increase budgets.
  • Progress, hire, develop and lead a high performing total rewards team to deliver strong solutions that meet the needs of the business
  • Ensure all compensation and benefit programs are compliant with related government rules and regulations, including ERISA, FLSA, FMLA, ADA, HIPAA, ACA, COBRA, OSHA, Worker’s compensation, and other applicable federal and/or state regulations.
  • Prepare, analyze, and submit reports for internal and external use, including government mandated reports and compliance audits, as well as materials for Coca-Cola Consolidated Board of Directors as needed.
  • Participate in M&A activity and the management and integration of broad-based compensation, benefit and payroll requirements.
  • Own and/or partner with HR Operations and Finance regarding mobility strategies, programs and policies.  
  • Own and develop annual total rewards budget according Finance timeline/template.


Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Strong track record of successfully implementing total rewards programs that impact the performance of a complex, diversified organization, and enhance the company’s ability to attract, develop, engage and grow a highly talented diverse workforce.
  • Proven experience in designing and leading annual compensation, equity and incentive programs.
  • Strong business acumen and ability to work well across different functions to integrate HR and business strategies.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication; high quality document preparation and presentation skills.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving capabilities and the ability to influence with data-driven recommendations.
  • Proven ability to proactively recognize, plan and act on the need for innovation and process improvement.
  • Creative approach to problem solving
  • Able to travel domestically as appropriate.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience
  • 10+ years of related experience, including significant depth in design and administration of operating unit compensation and benefits plans and programs across multiple sites and functional job areas
  • At least 5 years as a top-level HR executive, hiring and developing a total rewards team in a corporate organization.
  • Demonstrated success in negotiating, organizing, planning, problem solving and partnering among multiple complex priorities to resolve issues, manage change, and deliver results.
  • Thorough subject matter expertise with knowledge and understanding of accounting and financial concepts especially related to tax and accounting treatment, SEC regulations and filings, proxy disclosures, FASB, Internal Revenue Code.
